The Spaniard has only started five Premier League games this season but he believes the manager is only doing what is best for the team
Ander Herrera insists that Louis van Gaal is still the right man to lead Manchester United to glory.
That is despite Herrera's recent absence from the starting line-up, as he has found himself outside of Van Gaal's immediate plans at Old Trafford.
Herrera only played a combined nine minutes in the recent clashes with West Brom and CSKA Moscow and only has five Premier League starts to his name this campaign.
But the Spaniard does speak remarkably highly of his boss and even insists that he is not quite the tenacious character that he is often referred to as being.
Speaking to Catalunya Radio , Herrera said: “He’s a very demanding person, very forward and very sincere, which I value a lot.
"To you guys (the press), he might seem a bit tough, but I think he’s a good guy and I think he wants what’s best for the club.
“On a personal level, I have a very good relationship with him. I know he can look tough from outside the club, but from within, he’s the right guy to help us improve.”
Herrera has also opened up about his close relationship with goalkeeper David De Gea, who was tipped to leave Old Trafford in the summer.
De Gea's move to Real Madrid fell through at the final hurdle following some administrative errors on the European deadline.
But Herrera is delighted that he was able to keep his friend playing alongside him and has lauded him for the five clean sheets in a row which he has just kept for the Red Devils.
Brothers in arms: Herrera and the Spanish contingent are delighted De Gea stayed
He said: “He’s a genius. Purely on talent, I’ve never seen someone like him and we are lucky to have him. a"The talent he has, very few have it in the world and David is one of them. "It’s a blessing to have him close, and hopefully it will be for a long time.”
