The world has continually being in flux. Generation come and go, leaving us with so many diseases. Presently it’s all about the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) which is presently a plague or a canker-worm eating deep into the fiber of the West Africa Sub-region. It’s currently growing wild and fast that the World Powers have suddenly been forced to awake from their slumber and take a keen eagle eye upon it.
The 18th, 19th and 20th centuries have been bastardized with so many infectious diseases, but a handful only come to our minds mainly because of the singular fact that those ones are more severe and deadly. Some of them are: Hiv/Aids Virus, Tuberculosis (TB), staphylococcus, syphilis etc. But the two I’ll like to pinpoint which exists and which we also must be careful about is the Genital Herpes Virus (HSV-2) and the Flu Virus. Genital Herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus known as HSV-2. It’s a common and currently and incurably Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). Its symptoms are painful sores around the genitals, rectum, mouth or the area around the lips.
The Herpes Virus comes in two forms; the HSV which is herpes itself and the HSV-2 which is the genital herpes. HSV more often causes no symptom or only mild ones which means that most people that have HSV are unaware they are infected. Herpes can be dangerous however when it grows and becomes increasingly visible and not treated in time, it’s more dangerous however when it’s passed from a mother to a newborn. In rare cases HSV invades the brain and triggers potentially deadly inflammation.
Although HSV-2 is common and incurable, it currently has the HPV Vaccine which can be used to substantially curb the viral shedding so that people can look healthy and live their normal life.
The Flu Virus is also a common illness that makes one feel very tired and weak. It gives one a sore throat which makes them coughs, and have to clear the nose a lot. Although the flu virus is transmittable; it can also be gotten due to change of weather or environment. The flu virus causes severe fever which might go as far as weakening the defence mechanism in the body which might lead to influx of bacteria or diseases into the body if not addressed.
The World Health Organization (WHO) says it needs at least a billion dollar to tackle the deadly and rampant threat caused by the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), and the Ebola problem was one of the burning issues that was on top of the agenda of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly of Sep, 2014 in New York. After all “Health is Wealth.”
