As the nation is coming to terms with the death toll following the building collapse of the Synagogue Church of all Nations, Ikotun, Lagos, another storey building belonging to Christ Chosen Church of God located at Usama street, Uzebu quarters collapsed, three people are feared dead.
LEADERSHIP Weekend learnt that the said building, which held the offices and residents of officials of the church, was in the process of being demolished.
Sources indicated that 12 workers hired at N 2500 per day were working in the building, but three of them went out to eat at the time the building came down. The exact number of people trapped under the rubble is not clear.
As at the time of filing in this report, rescue efforts were on underway. Commissioner of Police, Folusho Adebanji had immediately mobilised men and materials to the scene on learning of the building’s collapse.
Angry residents set a bus belonging to the Church ablaze and destroyed its main auditorium.
The angry mob blamed the Church for using manual labour to demolish the building, lamenting that Church officials should have used an excavator.
A survivor who simply gave his name as Sunday said, “They asked us to destroy the building.
