KADUNA ATTACKS: 160 killed, 24,000 Displaced

Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have so far killed more than 160 persons in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State The gunmen had in June, raided two separate villages in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing at first 38 residents of the area while scores were injured. While, the attacks carried out simultaneously in two villages of Ankpon in Nandu district and Kabamu in Fadan Karshi, both in Numana district in Sanga council area, lasted for three days, claimed scores of lives, prompting the local government to declare a 24-hour curfew in the area as the crisis escalated.


According to reports from Punch, the local government chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Adamu revealed that more than seven villages and not two, as earlier reported, were actually attacked by the gunmen. Mr. Adamu said this while briefing the state Deputy Governor, Ambassador Nuhu Bajoga, who was on tour of the area on Friday. He said over 160 residents of the area were actually killed while over 24,000 persons had been displaced by the attacks. According to the Chairman, the over 24,000 persons displaced are scattered in the five Internally Displaced Camps in the area. “Your excellency sir, so far over seven villages have been attacked in the area and not less than 160 persons dead and over 24,000 displaced with many of them scattered in the five Internally Displaced Camps and others with relatives,” he said. The deputy governor called on those, who fled the area to return to their communities saying government had put in place measures to ensure their safety. Bajoga, who was visibly shaken by the extent of damage inflicted on the communities, assured the people that adequate security would be put in place to forestall future attacks. “Some of the villagers have said that (the) soldiers now come to sleep with the people. They come around in the night and go back in the morning,” he said
