Andy Murray progresses into the French Open last-eight with a straight sets win over Spains Fernando Verdasco.

Despite having not rested since Saturday, playing on the trot, the Briton sealed a comfortable 4-6, 5-7, 6-7 (3-7) win over Verdasco, who has the fourth longer active streak at a Grand Slam, having made his 44th Majors appearance since making his debut in Wimbledon 2003.

It was an unbelievable atmosphere. I really enjoyed myself, we played some great points and he fought extremely hard. I was a bit nervous at the end but I am glad I managed to get through, Murray said.

Andy Murray Claims Roland Garros Quarter-Finals Berth.

I was trying to play more aggressively because I knew I was going to be tired in my legs. I am laughing at myself most of the time rather than smiling, but I love it here.

The win extends Murray head-to-head record over the Spaniard to 10-1.

The Wimbledon champion will play Frenchman Gael Monfils in the quarter-finals after the 23rd seed beat Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-0 6-2 7-5 earlier on Philippe Chatrier.

I have known Gael since I was 10 and he was 11. He is an unbelievable entertainer, a great athlete, a very nice guy and it should be a very tough match, but there should be some fun points because of the way we both play, added Murray on his quarter-final match-up with Monfils.

Simona Halep beats Sloane Stephens 6-4 6-3 to set up a quarter-final with either Svetlana Kuznetsova or Lucie Safarova.
